Candidate Information
Ozzie Lopez was raised in East Los Angeles and graduated from Garfield High School. Being the first member of his family to attend college, Ozzie soon enrolled at East Los Angeles Community College where he earned his Associates of Arts Degree. He later earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from California State University, Los Angeles, and also earned a Master of Public Administration from National University.
He is currently the Executive Director of the Los Angeles Youth Opportunity Movement in Boyle Heights. Ozzie has focused his career in developing pathways toward self-sustainability while creating post-secondary education opportunities for young adults between the ages of 14 to 24 years of age. His leadership and administrative capabilities have earned the organization National recognition by the National Community Development Association and State recognition by the California Council for Performance in Excellence.
Ozzie believes strongly in civic participation. In 2002, Ozzie founded a volunteer organization focused on empowering communities. The mission was to work with parents and young adults on a variety of community services projects while at the same time assisting in the development of organizational leadership techniques. He works on empowering those around him and continuously volunteers his time on projects that focus on improving the quality of life in communities in and around Los Angeles County.
Ozzie Lopez is married to Veronica, a Los Angeles Unified School District teacher. They have 5 children and have lived in Los Angeles County for 30 years and currently reside in the community of El Sereno.
