Candidate StatementPamela R. Bolin Candidate for the LACCD Seat 5 Hello my name is Pamela Bolin. I am a candidate for the Los Angeles Community College District, Seat 5. My passion is education. I believe you are never too young or too old to become well educated in any field of your choice. I earned an Associate in Arts degree from Pierce College, a community college within the Los Angeles District. I then went on to graduate from California State University of Northridge with a finance degree. In addition, I volunteer as a community campaigner for the North Valley YMCA and I am a member of the PTA for Beckford Elementary School and Nobel Middle School where my two beautiful boys ages 9 and 12 attend. I also volunteer for the Northridge Little League, as a team mom. In addition, I am a business woman and have been working in Northridge for 22 years. In March 2010, I was elected into office for the Northridge West Neighborhood Council. I was appointed Treasurer. As a stakeholder and a Treasurer for the community, I continue to minimize expenses by utilizing my resources, tools, and coupons, therefore making the taxpayers dollar stretch. I am also passionate about the Nationwide, Encore Senior Program. Currently, my mother attends the Senior Citizen Encore Programs at Pierce College. I will work hard to see that the Encore Programs and other educational programs continue for the children, young adults and seniors. Report findings from Cal State Sacramento concluded that only 17 % of LACCD students transferred to a 4-year college and only 9 percent earned an associate's degree. The young adults and seniors I have spoken with, tell me 50 plus students attempt to enroll in courses, only to be turned away. This makes it difficult for students to continue their education and to complete their certificate or degree. This is frustrating and discouraging! WE NEED TO REVERSE THIS TREND! The solution? Los Angeles needs to keep programs in effect, and colleges need to identify better practices. I know I possess the skills and experience required to sit in Seat 5 of the LACCD. There is a lot of work to be done! I am ready for the challenge! Please vote for me, so I can make a difference! Vote for, Pamela Bolin on March 8, 2011, Seat 5 LACCD. Thank-you |
