From boots on the battleground to scrubs in the emergency room, Manan Trivedi's service to others has prepared him to confront the pressing challenges Congress faces today. A son of immigrants from India, Manan was born and raised in Berks County. His parents worked at the Red Cheek apple juice factory. He attended public schools and graduated from Fleetwood High School. He went on to college and medical school before becoming an officer in the Navy that took him to the frontlines of the War in Iraq. Now, he's a primary care physician and board certified in internal medicine. As a Battalion Surgeon for the 1st Battalion, 5th Regiment Marine Corps Infantry, Trivedi was among the first US ground forces to enter Iraq. Trivedi served on the battlefield, commanding a medical team that cared for over 1,200 military personnel and hundreds of Iraqi civilians. For his service, Lt. Commander Trivedi earned the Combat Action Ribbon, the Navy Commendation Medal, and his unit was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation. After Iraq, Trivedi received a Masters degree in Health Policy. He drew on his experience with combat medicine to become one of the early researchers to investigate the unique mental health issues affecting our troops returning from Iraq and Afghanistan. Trivedi went on to serve as health policy advisor to the Navy Surgeon General and was an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences. As an expert on public health and Veteran's health care, Trivedi served as a health policy advisor to Barack Obama's campaign for President. In Congress, Manan Trivedi will aspire to be a new type of civil servant; someone who has the courage to stand up for the best interests of his district, even when it's the tough political road to take. Trivedi will continue to push for reforms to our healthcare system. He is the only candidate in the 6th district to create a comprehensive jobs plan; a plan he will introduce in Congress. And Trivedi will implement policies designed to broaden government transparency and regain the American peoples' trust. |
