Accountability in HarrisburgBy Joseph T. "Joe" HackettCandidate for State Representative; District 161 | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
During the 2008 elections, we all heard candidates promise to bring "greater accountability and transparency" to government, but we haven't seen any real change. Business as usual in Harrisburg politics quickly replaced the campaign rhetoric with more of the same old duck and dodge tactics. Joe believes that Pennsylvania residents deserve better. One of Joe's driving principles is to pull back the curtain on the legislative process + particularly the annual budget. He will let his constituents know exactly where they stand, how much money the state intends to spend on various programs and where the money will come from. The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is now facing a $1 billion budget deficit for Fiscal Year 2010-11. There are many badly needed programs that require state funding and scores of worthy programs that could benefit large segments of our population. Joe believes that the state needs to do a better job of prioritizing its budget + beginning first with the size and scope of state government itself. |
