I was born in Lakewood, OH, a city bordering Cleveland on the west side. My mother was a single teenage parent who worked tirelessly through her last two years of high school to raise me, earn a living, and earn her high school diploma.
I was born into a Democratic, working-class, Catholic family where my mother and I lived with four generations of family sharing a small house - my great-grandmother, both of my grandparents, an uncle, and two aunts. My childhood was filled with financial and medical struggles, all of which brought my family closer together and taught me the value of hard work and perseverance.
At the age of twelve I started caring for and tutoring neighborhood children after school. Throughout middle school and high school I spent most of my after school hours working to take care of kids in my neighborhood or in my family, making dinner for them, helping them with homework, and acting as a positive role model for them.
After high school, I attended Miami University in Oxford, OH where I graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Business with a major in Management Information Systems and a minor in Computer Information Systems. Eleven years ago at Miami University I became close friends with Remi Bannick, now my husband of three years.
My husband and I both grew up believing that government taxing and spending to redistribute wealth would help poor people like us and our families. As we got older, we both learned that government redistribution of wealth does not create long-term improvements in quality of life. Only hard work, self-reliance, and reliance on family, church, and community can create long lasting gains in our standard of living, while redistribution of wealth enables a vicious cycle of generations of a dependent class of people.
I am now proud to say that I am a long-time proponent of liberty. I first became a member of the Libertarian Party in 2000 when I began researching candidates for the presidential election. I identified so strongly with the Libertarian ideals of social tolerance and fiscal and personal responsibility that I co-founded the student organization Miami University College Libertarians the following year and served as Vice President for the group. Today I continue to enjoy studying economic theory, politics, and history.
I am currently a Manager at a technology consulting firm in Cincinnati, OH, managing a team of software engineers designing and developing a custom business intelligence and data warehousing solution for a fortune 100 company. My husband Remi has a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from Miami University and is General Manager at an analytical testing firm. We enjoy renovating our 1940's Cape Cod style home and having family, friends, and neighbors over for back yard barbecues in Deer Park, OH.
