Political Philosophy for Robert J. Castelli
Candidate for |

|
It has been my great honor to spend my life in the service of my Country and my Community. While I have now returned to public service just seven months ago I must run for re-election, as I only ran to fill a vacant seat the first time in February. Since taking office I have worked hard for my district, fighting for taxpayers, serving apolitically and in a bipartisan fashion, passing important local legislation for Harrison and Lewisboro, working in concert with local government such as fighting alongside New Castle Town Supervisor Barbara Gerrard to get the Route 120 Bridge Project in Chappaqua reopened, and crafting forty-two pieces of legislation to protect our veterans, our seniors, and that which is most precious: our environment. There is a very steep learning curve in becoming a State Assemblyman, but I am proud to say that despite Albany's famous dysfunction, I was able to get four pieces of my own legislation out of committee, including a Statewide measure, and two of my bills passed by both the Assembly and the Senate. We all know Albany is dysfunctional. It shouldn't have to be that way. I am running for re-election to bring together like-minded voices from across the political spectrum who are committed to reforming State government. My voting record and my legislative agenda show I am committed to term limits, independent redistricting, budget reform and Constitutional reforms to the way the Legislature does business, including an end to the "three men in a room" approach to government by sponsoring legislation to move up the scheduled 2017 vote on convening a State Constitutional Convention to next year. Perhaps most importantly, measures enacted by the Convention would be implemented independent of the State Legislature. |
