Why I'm RunningBy Bob RustCandidate for Board Member; Pleasant Valley Elementary School District | |

I can help Camarillo's schools recover the public's trust.I think the most basic concept is that we have public schools for the public weal. Well fed and rested children who have parental support and good teachers are the most apt to learn, and the better basis we give them in grammar school, the happier and more productive adults they become, and the better for the city, county, state, and country as a whole. Education is an absolutely priceless basis of our society. School Board members are like umpires: if they do their job well, everybody's happy, and teachers, principals, parents, and teachers all get along and work well together. Nobody much notices the Board. If the umpire makes bad calls, the game is interrupted and everybody notices him. This present board has made itself very visible, and angered parents, staff, and teachers, and even turned some of them against each other. There has been unrest and instability, and that's not good for the kids! I think a fresh start is needed, and kids have to be put first, and the Board needs to work to regain the trust of the Pleasant Valley, and to provide a stable, nurturing environment. I can read, write, think, and listen, I will be forthright and honest, and my door will always be open. We can all work together to put the cachet back into the phrase "Pleasant Valley Schools." I'm retired, and I love being retired, but I so feel strongly about our schools and my ability to make a difference that I have decided to make a run for this Board. It really is "all about the kids." Please vote for me in November. |
