Ramirez has big-picture view

Thursday, October 7, 2010 More than any other candidate running for Oxnard City Council, for me, Carmen Ramirez connects the dots of the issues facing the city. At this time in history, Oxnard needs leadership that can see both the small and big picture. At last Monday's candidates' forum, Ms. Ramirez demonstrated her rich understanding of the issues facing the city, from neighborhood revitalization and youth issues to urban planning, to Oxnard's role in the context of SOAR. Asked about traffic, while other candidates talked about costly and glitzy engineering feats, such as "smart traffic technology," to help move cars along, Ms. Ramirez was the only candidate to make the point strongly that one thing we can do is simply make Oxnard an easier place to walk or ride a bicycle - simple adjustments in planning that don't require grand and expensive heroics. Also impressive is the diversity of groups and individuals supporting Ms. Ramirez for City Council + from the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers to the Sierra Club and everyone in between. Ms. Ramirez has the talent to bring diverse groups together to forge an exciting path forward for Oxnard. Last but not least is Ms. Ramirez's commitment to an open and transparent government. For me, the choice this election day is clear, vote Carmen Ramirez for Oxnard City Council.

Ramirez's actions speak volumes

Monday, October 4, 2010 "Saying is one thing and doing is another." The French writer Montaigne is generally credited with originating these words. This is a fitting quote to remember when we evaluate candidates for Oxnard City Council. Carmen Ramirez has demonstrated her actions through more than 35 years of community involvement in the legal field, environment and serving as board member or director of various organizations that serve Ventura County and its citizens. Her service has earned her several awards, including the Ben Nordman Public Service Award and Woman of the Year for the 35th Assembly District. Carmen has the familiarity with the problems and strengths of our community. With her proven experience and leadership in overseeing litigation, financial planning, labor management relations, personnel and consensus building, she is one of the candidates you can believe in when they state they want to improve Oxnard. My vote is for Carmen because she has a clear agenda, promotes transparency and accountability, pledges to improve public safety, preserve and protect Oxnard's natural resources, and will tackle traffic congestion and the revitalization of our neighborhoods. The community of Oxnard has had enough negative publicity, over development, traffic and blighted areas. Let's remember that actions speak louder than words when we cast our votes for City Council. Vote for Carmen, and elect a person dedicated to improving our community. Monica Frazier, Oxnard

Ramirez knows leadership

Monday, October 4, 2010 It is a very critical time for the City of Oxnard. On Nov. 2, we the voters have an opportunity to elect leaders to work with us and help guide us to a secure future. Carmen Ramirez is exactly the person we need on the Oxnard City Council. For more than 30 years, she has lived, worked and served in Oxnard. Throughout this time, she has demonstrated her commitment to both the people and the environment of our city. Carmen Ramirez truly listens to concerns of groups and individuals and will work with us to effectively address the issues. Anyone who has ever dealt with her, either personally or professionally, can attest to her absolute integrity. Carmen Ramirez is a lawyer by profession, but she uses her skills to benefit those most in need. As a member of various boards and councils, she has proved her ability to work with others to solve complex problems. Oxnard needs Carmen Ramirez on the Oxnard City Council. Please vote for her on Nov. 2. Meredith Kruger, Oxnard
