Todd Press, Candidate for Thousand Oaks City Council Representative 2010.

The steps to a better Thousand Oaks tomorrow are:

1. Implementation of Accountability & Disclosure Policy & Procedure Guidelines.
2. A Sustainable Balanced City Budget is a necessity, its not option. However, you can`t achieve sustainability in a balanced budget, unless you have a fiscally conservative mindset. You and I both know, because its basic "household economics" that living within one means does not achieve sustainability. Sustainability in a balanced budget is achieve when income sustainability and spending restraint guidelines are in place.
3. We need a Job & Business Encouragement Plan. A real and applicable plan. We must tap the resources within our community business leaders, for their experience, knowledge and understanding of the importance of employment and business in growth in our community. This includes Limiting Vertical Growth subject to constituency majority approval and city council mandate.
4. We need a City Community Unity Pack (CUP) which creates and fosters an environment for greater community interaction with city governance.
5. Perhaps one of the most important, and talked about change is the need for City Term Limits. I believe Term Limits are a necessary building block to a sustainable, accountable and transparent city government. Which can be easily accomplished without circulation of a term limit petition, which is self-serving politicking at best.
6. Unique to my campaign platform is the proposal for a comprehensive independent City Asset & Liability Review. We need to take a comprehensive detailed look at our city budget books. Where can we cut unnecessary spending loses? How can we generate more asset income? How can we reduce waste? etc. etc.
7. We must continue to find ways to support and promote our Schools, Safety & Environment. Both for today and for tomorrow. Which includes the need to protect our Affordable Housing, especially our mobile home communities with measured rent control ordinances.

With so many Thousand Oaks residents frustrated with the current political climate in America, to re-elect any one of our career incumbent city council expecting a different result is insanity.

Make the effort to get know the new incoming candidates running for City Council. Attend the Candidate Forums. Check out the candidates' website. Ask questions. Get involved. Because this November 2010 mid-term election is not about which career incumbent politician did what. This election is about being part of the change you want to see in the world. Its about the restoring the vision of a bright and prosperous future in our City and its people.
