Getting The Job DoneBy Renea WickmanCandidate for Member of the State Assembly; District 63 | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Addressing jobs, education, legisator accountability and diversifying California's revenue.1. JOBS Our District's unemployment rate is 14%, we need jobs. I will support legislation in Sacramento that will include incentives for businesses that have taken the leap into new technology to settle in our District. I will work with businesses to help them provide and facilitate retraining of unemployed workers to put them back to work in our community. I will support legislation in Sacramento that will finance colleges, universities and trade schools to develop and continue the training of workers for bio technology jobs and green jobs in our District. 2. CALIFORNIA STATE BUDGET It is time for our elected officials to be more responsible and reasonable with the way they spend and allocate billions of dollars each year. I will support legislation that will take another look at the two-thirds vote required to pass the State budget. I will work with the whole Assembly to pass a budget that will never again pay employees with IOUs because of irresponsibility to the constituents that pay lawmakers' salaries. I will support legislation that includes if we cannot pay our own constituents then we cannot pay ourselves. 3. EDUCATION If we are to be serious about moving into the new millennium and competing on a global and state scale, we have to be serious about educating our community members. The rate of seniors actually graduating from San Bernardino County schools is only 60%. This is unacceptable. If this low graduation rate continues we will not be able to provide the work force needed in our own District. If we continue to dismiss our educators, this rate will continue. I will support legislation that gives continued support and positive reinforcement to creative and innovative teachers, institutions and students. 4. LEGISLATORS RESPONSIBILITY I am tired of seeing the citizens of our District be overlooked by the elected officials we pay. It is time for taxpaying citizens to be heard. We need more leaders that understand we work for you. It is time for our elected officials in our district to pass legislation that the constituents want and most of all, to bring us all into the new millennium. |
