o Juan Vargas learned the value of hard work growing up on a chicken farm in National City with his parents and nine brothers and sisters. o Juan attended the University of San Diego on scholarship before spending 4 years studying to be a Jesuit Priest, where he worked helping orphaned and displaced children in the jungles of El Salvador. o He and his wife, Adrienne, created and fund the Jenny Rojas Fund, which gives money and support to abused and neglected children. o After leaving the seminary, Juan entered Harvard Law School, where he was classmates with President Barack Obama. o After Harvard Law School, Juan began his career in public service. He is ready to resume his service and make California work again. o Juan has been a civic leader in Southern California for over 15 years. During that time, he fought for good paying jobs and educational opportunities for kids. o After President Clinton stopped the genocide in the former Yugoslavia, the Vargas family welcomed a displaced Kosovar family into their home for nearly two years. o For the last three years, Juan has been a Vice President for a home, auto, and small business insurance company, working to protect jobs in our communities. o Juan and Adrienne, an executive at the San Diego Foundation, live in the community Golden Hill. They have two daughters, Rosa (13) and Helena (6). o Juan left his job because he was guided by his strong belief that, together, we can make California work again. |
