Less Spending, Less Taxes & Smaller GovernmentBy Carlos A. RodriguezCandidate for United States Representative; District 28 | |

Government is a cancer masquerading as its own cure. This is the issue that keeps me up at night more than any other. Maybe it's just me, but it seems as though the lunatics are running the asylum, with all due respect of course. Folks, how can we continue to spend at least double the amount of revenue coming in? Who manages their home like this? If we continue down this course, national bankruptcy is INEVITABLE. I'm sure you've heard it before, but it bears repeating, we have got to cut spending in the public sector drastically. We have too many programs, departments, entitlements, public empoyees, etc. The natural tendency of government is to grow, and after 200 plus years, ours has become too big and bloated. We need to begin having a serious discussion about downsizing many of the programs and departments in existence such as: the Dept. of Energy, Agriculture, Education, Commerce, HUD, the Federal Reserve, the FDA, Homeland Security, etc. Most, if not all, of these "services" do nothing more than interfere with the free flow of goods & services in a free market: the only true source of wealth generation. As a consequence, they should be eliminated, and if there is a legitimate need for such service, the private sector will through competition provide a better service or poduct at a cheaper price. Just think.. if the government were in charge of cell phones, we'd all still be carrying around a brick. It only took them half a century to make the DMV bearable, and that's still debatable! Once we have begun to seriously slash spending, we must begin to deregulate much of the economy while reducing taxes on those who are in positions to create jobs, namely, small business owners. In simple terms, we have to put more money in the hands of business owners and make it easier for them to produce, so they can grow their business, and hire more employees by default. Privatize, deregulate, & reduce taxes... From where I'm sitting, government is the enemy of small businesses and our economy. We must cut this monster down to size before it swallows us all up! |
