Expanding Access to Health CareBy Richard PanCandidate for Member of the State Assembly; District 5 | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Dr. Pan has dedicated his life not only to ensuring the good health of his child patients, but also to eliminating the barriers to quality and affordable health care for all people. An expert on the causes of health, Dr. Pan understands the relationship between decisions made by the state about the environment, education, safety, and health care and the health of your family. Dr. Pan believes that California's economic recovery and future prosperity hinges on our ability to provide cost effective, quality health care to all individuals + regardless of economic, social, or ethnic background. That's why he led the fight locally to secure health, dental and vision coverage for over 65,000 children through his Healthy Kids Healthy Future program, and established the Sacramento Health Improvement Project, which brought together doctors, hospitals, clinics, and community leaders to ensure that all Sacramento residents had access to primary preventative health care. Dr. Pan knows that California's health care system is broken, and that every day without action means another day our health insurance premiums rise, our ER's get overcrowded, and over 7 million Californians, including many children, cannot get the medications they need or preventive care because they are uninsured. As a delegate at the American Medical Association (AMA) meetings in June and November 2009, Dr. Pan coordinated testimony supporting a "public option" in the federal Health Care Reform package. Appreciating the importance of patient choice and price competition for private health care plans, Dr. Pan led the public option charge against strong opposition from the Southern and Midwestern physicians, and eventually helped move the AMA toward an official support position. If elected to the State Assembly, Dr. Pan will make reforming California's broken health system a priority from day one. With years of experience navigating our complex health system and vast medical expertise, nobody is more knowledgeable or better suited to tackle our health crisis than Dr. Pan. |
