Orange County, CA | November 2, 2010 Election |
Education PositionBy Cecilia "Ceci" IglesiasCandidate for United States Representative; District 47 | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Education will be one of my top areas of involvement and work to ensure that Orange County's workforce is well-educated to be business owners, better employees, and professionals. I commit to help make Reach to Achieve a national role model. It is clear that Education is one of the vital keys to the future of the 47th District and its Congressional Representative must be an active leader in the quest for new solutions to address increased learning needs and decreased resources. To help attain this objective, I would launch, "Target Orange: Reach to Achieve", a public-private team approach to create new educational investment opportunities for private companies and corporations to assist in the following ways: 1) Link schools and schools districts with industry sectors and/or businesses in new Shared Resource Agreement (SRA) relationships mentoring multi-year educational programs that can develop skills appropriate to their specific areas of operational focus. 2) Facilitate pathways that foster pipeline educational strategies that improve the connection between learning and future career opportunities through coordinated, specialized academic programs. As a member of Congress, I would provide the following specific support: 1) Work to designate Orange County a Reach to Achieve Zone qualified for additional education and job training stimulus funding based upon demographic and immigration impact criteria, and 2) Call for an annual Reach to Achieve Summit to include all school districts and parents within the 47th Congressional District for the purpose of identifying present priorities and ways in which federal assistance can facilitate the desired outcomes. |
