Political Philosophy for Jared Huffman

When you elected me four years ago, I promised to bring strong, effective leadership to Sacramento and protect our Democratic values. I've kept that promise. I've written tough new laws that are making a difference: creating jobs and contributing to our economic recovery; protecting our environment; increasing energy independence through clean renewable resources; protecting children from toxic chemicals; and ensuring vital funding to keep public hospitals and emergency rooms open. I played a leading role in passing a historic, bipartisan package of water reforms to restore the dying Delta ecosystem, promote water conservation, and improve water management throughout California. Despite Sacramento's dysfunction and gridlock, I'm working to get things done. That's why I've received the highest scores from key groups including California League of Conservation Voters, Consumer Federation of California, California Small Business Association, and California Labor Federation. I'm also working to change Sacramento by advancing long-term reforms, including eliminating the unworkable two-thirds vote for passing budgets, and requiring ballot initiatives to pay for themselves. Huge challenges and opportunities lie ahead. The worst fiscal crisis since the Great Depression is not yet over, and Republicans will keep exploiting it to leverage their extreme agenda -- to cripple public education, weaken environmental protections, and dismantle the social safety net. I'll do more than just oppose these efforts; I'll fight for fair and honest budget solutions that reflect Democratic values. Working together, we can put California back to work and back on track. I respectfully ask for your vote. |
