My statement details my position as a candidate for the office of Board Member to the City of Santa Rosa High School District.

As a member of the Santa Rosa City Schools Board of Education, as a teacher at Santa Rosa Junior College and as the elected 2010 President of the California School Boards Association, I continue to be firmly committed to providing our community with quality educational programs which raise academic standards and improve the performance of our future graduates.

With my active involvement on the local, state and federal levels, Santa Rosa City Schools will continue on a path to becoming the best in the state.

During these past four years we have successfully managed our budget and made significant improvements in the reading levels of our elementary students, increased the number of students passing the California High School Exit Exam and enhanced our ability to analyze data to identify and support individual student needs.

Our career training and university pathways are recognized statewide as model programs. Our University Partnership, Early College Magnet, International Baccalaureate and Art Quest programs provide exemplary choices for our students. Each of these specialized offerings adds distinction to our high school diploma.

I will pursue educational reforms that produce lasting results so we can continue to increase the number of graduates who successfully transfer to college or enter our workforce.
