Transparency, Consistency, and Balance

By Albert Lau

Candidate for Board Member; Piner-Olivet Union School District

This information is provided by the candidate
As a Board member, I will use 3 ideals to guide me in my decision-making.
Transparency - Our public education system is a service-oriented institution. The students are its clients; the community is its investor. The community invests its tax dollars and time in the School District to ensure the students are properly educated. I will strive to ensure that everyone sees how that investment is being spent, making it a priority that there is transparency in all Board decisions. This will increase credibility in the School District.

Consistency - As an engineer, I research the pros and cons of a situation to come up with a solution. I will bring this approach to all the issues that the School District will face, thoughtfully listening to all sides before making a decision. That decision will consistently benefit the students, the schools, and the community.

Balance - A student's education is built on a foundation with three parts. Schools teach the skills to learn. Families provide the emotional support to become good citizens. The students themselves are ultimately responsible for their actions and decisions. All three parts are equally important to produce educated children. The School Board is tasked to provide the best schools possible, schools that are made up of teachers, administrators, clerical staff, and others to provide an environment to promote learning, in facilities that are safe and secure. It has to balance funding with realistic economic conditions. I will approach the fiscal issues with a keen awareness that our schools consist of components that are all vital to educating our children.

My wife and I are committed to our community and invested in the Piner-Olivet School District. We have two children in our schools, and have lived in the School District for 17 years. By strengthening our schools, we strengthen our neighborhood. You can contact me at alau4pousd@att.net if you have any questions.

I would appreciate your vote on Tuesday, November 2. Thank You.
