MARTA: A COMMUNITY ELDER
- As an exercise instructor in the SRJC Adult Education Program, Marta consistently encouraged my senior students to volunteer in the local schools because of the value of their wisdom that could only be gained through years of life experience.
- She urged them to get active in any way that they felt they could constructively contribute, whether it be tutoring in Math, Reading, or Writing, monitoring recess, offering after school programs in their areas of expertise, or assisting with clerical tasks. Now that she herself is now a senior citizen, Marta decided to follow her own recommendations.
