Give the teachers the opportunity to teach, not to just teach to a testOur teachers in the Cloverdale Unified School District are a quality group of teachers. Having spoken with a number of them, they want to deliver the best education to their students as possible. However, in my opinion, they are strapped with this "teach to the test" environment. Teachers know how to teach, but they have to teach to make sure the students pass a state test that is suppose to grade how well students are learning. I say, give the teachers the flexibility to teach using their own creative ideas and give them the support they need to do so. Support them with the supplies they need and with the ongoing encouragement that everyone needs to feel good about their jobs. Given the opportunity to teach using their creativity, we would see improvements throughout the district. |
