Role of Board and Superintendent Collaboration and TransparencySchool Board trustees are the only elected officials who advocate for children. Our role is to oversee the educational process and to hold the superintendent accountable for managing the schools. A school board trustee must base decisions on what is best for all children. Decisions are made regarding policies and procedures, use of funds, expulsions and sometimes grievances. At present, I believe the Board represents the community well, is dedicated to doing what is best for children, and is trying to improve communication and streamline superintendent and board evaluations. A forum was recently held to help determine the board's goals for the year. I would like to continue in this vein and to support more collaboration of teachers, conflict resolution such as Restorative Justice, continual scrutiny of the budget and more transparency in all matters. |
