I am a district parent with children at Las Lomitas and La Entrada. My children have attended our district's schools for six years. As a parent and an educator, I am deeply committed to supporting and strengthening our award-winning school district. Through my work as a teacher and vice principal of an elementary / middle school and my research and work in education reform, I will bring innovative ideas and practical experience to our school board. I have fifteen years of experience as a classroom teacher, administrator and creator of school-embedded teacher professional development programs. I have served as faculty at Harvard's Project Zero Summer Institute and conducted numerous professional development sessions for school leaders and administrators around the country. I have also conducted educational research at the state, district and school level that examines how teachers and educational leaders strengthen teaching and learning. I hold a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Teacher Education from Stanford University and an M.A. in Education from Harvard University. Currently, I am the Director of Professional Knowledge at the Stanford Center for Assessment, Learning & Equity (SCALE) at Stanford University. At SCALE, I direct the New York City High School Performance Based Assessment Pilot project. I am also working on the problem of how schools, districts and states can develop effective systems to help teachers use performance assessments as a vehicle for examining student learning and for guiding teachers' reflection on their instructional practice. My involvement in civic service includes steady volunteering in my children's classrooms and serving as a Board Member of the Bay Area Teacher Training Institute. I have also participated on the Las Lomitas School Site Council and volunteered as an AYSO coach and referee. In addition, I contribute my time and expertise to various educational organizations: The Academy of Sciences Education Department, The Park Day School, The Bay Area Teacher Development Collaborative and other local educational organizations. I regularly present at local and national education conferences, such as the California Association of Independent Schools' Heads and Trustees Conference and the National Staff Development Council's Annual Conference. |
