Measure HBy Paul M. BrownCandidate for Mayor; City of San Luis Obispo | |

PLEASE Vote NO! Prado road SHOULD extend to Broad Street.Measure H would be a mistake for San Luis Obispo. I urge you to vote no against it. Essentially the proponents are asking you to support deadending Prado Road a few hundred yards before it connects with Broad Street. Not only would this undo over a decade worth of planning decisions made by six city councils, it also would reverse planning agreements made with property owners in the Maragarita expansion area and with county planning agencies. It doesn't make sense, unless you are purely looking at it as tool for no-growth in San Luis Obispo. If it passes, we will have to scale back the plans to build as many houses in that area (many of which are designed to be affordable, workforce housing) which will cause us to lose state funding because we will no longer meet our HUD requirements. In addition, this is yet another example of ballot box land planning (Measure J, Measures ABC, SOAR) which plays on voters emotions rather than the facts. We need to elect officials we trust to make fair and conscientious decisions. VOTE NO ON H! Since I first wrote this statement, the Tribune newspaper had this to say about Measure H on September 19, 2010: http://www.sanluisobispo.com/2010/09/18/1294211/editorial-measure-h-is-just-scare.html |
