James Souther is your neighbor with your same interests, a farmer and businessman who is competent, conservative, constitutional, and conservationist. James offers knowledge, skills, and pragmatism, along with his selfless service to constituents to assure our water remains ours as water continues as key to our future.YOUR NEIGHBOR WITH YOUR SAME INTERESTS James Souther raises walnuts for Crain Walnut of California and actively supports the San Joaquin Farm Bureau activities. James has been involved in Acampo agriculture for over thirty years and bought a farm on Gill Creek twenty years ago. The farm is located on the northeast corner of Peltier and Bruella Roads in Acampo. James participates as a charter volunteer for the NSJWCD advisory committee and attends all open board meetings. James believes our water rights will determine our future as we live and farm in one of the most fertile agricultural areas on the earth. COMPETENT Prior to farming, James was employed in senior technical positions in corporate DOD and consumer products companies program activities from writing proposals to design and implementation. His academic credentials include B.S-Physics (Math) from Montana State University at Bozeman, Senior Gold Award from the Hughes Aircraft Corporation Management and Administrative Planning Seminars in-house university, Executive MBA from University of Southern California at Los Angeles, and membership in several technical societies including AOC, IEEE, and lifetime membership in both Alumni Associations. James has negotiated major defense contracts and personally lead international project teams in Europe and Latin America. James continues to work a part-time business and technical problem consultant. James will consider all water board issues utilizing his expertise in several areas as your representative. CONSERVATIVE The Souther lineage can be tracked back to pre- American revolution colonial times with ancestors involved in all our nation's historical wars. James grew up in Montana and moved to California after college graduation where he met his wife of over thirty years. By political philosophy, James is a Jeffersonian conservative listing Thomas Jefferson as one of his historical and philosophical heroes and believes our nation is fundamentally based on Judeo-Christian values. James believes a federal representative republic constitutes the best form of government to date and will represent you as such. James basic values drive his fiscal and social conservative philosophies. James employs his systemic technical and business skills for his farm business pragmatic risk and return evaluation. He will employ his expertise to serve you on the water board and believes your individual voice forms the basis for all governance. CONSTITUTIONAL James's interest in the Constitution was piqued when he studied the Constitution and Federalist Papers at MSU. By classification, he is a Constitutional Originalist believing in the unchanging rights and powers granted by the US Constitution which stands above all other laws and men of our nation. James believes in less government and strong individual freedom and personal ethics as a vehicle for growth and prosperity, believes in states rights, believes in individual property rights, and believes in liberty as the most important common good. James aligns with the Tea Party and will support your rights and liberties serving you on the board to achieve the original charter and mission instituted by the board creation. CONSERVATIONIST James's interest in stewardship started in the fifth grade and continues unwaveringly. During his college years, he worked for the USDA (now NRCS) designing irrigation dams, pump facilities, irrigation canals, and irrigated farm land fields including terraces. Prior to farming, James participated in environmental technology product designs. After buying the farm, James increased the efficiency of the irrigation system including active monitoring, combined the Integrated Pest Management Program with technology and a transition to softer chemicals, implemented recycling practices, implemented a no-till/mulching program. At the NCRS Stewardship Program introduction, James found his operation already conformed to the new suggested practices.
