Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Dolores T. Riggins

Candidate for
Board Member; Grossmont Union High School District

This information is provided by the candidate

We spend an astronomical amount of money in California to educate our children. I do not believe we are getting our money's worth. California ranks 50th in the education level of our work force. We once ranked 7th. We have unique circumstances here and we need to address them as both districts and individual schools. Models that work for a nation or a state may not be adequate to meet the needs of our student population. We need to do what is best for our children and set our budget priorities accordingly.

Parents and teachers are closer to students and can often be the best source of ideas for what the needs are for a particular school. Each school is different and needs to be allowed to have a measure of control over its programs and curriculum. I believe we can meet or exceed all federal standards by focusing on the individual.
