Back in the years when cash was flowing into our economy, there was tremendous pressure put upon the MiraCosta Board of Trustees to sepnd the taxpayers' dollars on a whole plethora of projects, but I insisted upon and ultimately convinced the majority of the Board that a sizeable monetary reserve MUST be retained in order to protect the College from the "rainy days" that were sure to come. I caught a lot of flack for my fiscal conservatism, but sure enough, along came those "rainy days" in the form of the biggest recession this state and nation faced since the great depression.

Because of my consistent fiscal conservatism the college has been able to stay in the black financially, with no borrowing and no deficit spending!

Under my leadership as Board President, we have selected an outstanding new President for the College whose leadership has brought the campus and the community back together in record time.

We have established a brand new Registered Nurse program with the 2010 classes filled almost immediately.

We have established a great joint-venture with the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station which is providing MiraCosta students with a 2 year radiation protection technician certificate. San Onofre provides instruction, textbooks, and paid summer internships with the potential opportunity for the students to work for the facility upon completion of the program.

Under my leadership we've opened up a new veterans center on campus, provide scholarships for vets to purchase textbooks, and we're giving vets who were medics an accelerated opportunity to complete the Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) program.

I am "the Trustee" who has been unrelenting in my drive to create easily accessible ways for students and vets to defray the high costs of textbooks. Textbooks are the largest single expense to a student at MiraCosta, and now we have in place ways for students to either: borrow textbooks, rent textbooks, or receive textbook scholarships to help pay for the purchase of a textbook.

I'm proud of my accomplishments on the Board of Trustees of MiraCosta Community College and I would like to represent you for another term.
