Santee Businessman Rob McNelis to Run for City Council Santee, CA Rob McNelis, owner of One Stop Lending and Realty and past president of the Santee Chamber of Commerce, has announced his candidacy for Santee City Council. McNelis, a Santee resident since 1994 and a strong supporter of the community, decided to run after current City Council member Brian Jones won the Republican nomination for 77th State Assembly District in the June Primary Election. "I want to help the city continue to grow in a smart way," said McNelis of his decision. After growing up in the Los Angeles area, Rob McNelis came to San Diego in 1992 and moved to Santee in 1994. In 2000 he opened One Stop Lending and Realty and began a long association with local community organizations. From the Board of Directors of the Boys and Girls Club (2006-2007) to the Santee Chamber of Commerce (President, 2009), McNelis has worked hard to improve the city he now calls home. While on the Boys and Girls Club Board he helped to bring about the construction of the new facility on Mission Gorge Road, donating both his time and his money to make it a reality. As Chamber President Rob was the driving force behind the extremely successful Santee Street Fair, which attracted over 40,000 its first year and an estimated 50,000 its second year. He also worked closely with the city on the Shop Santee and Save promotion, which helped Santee see a 6% increase in sales tax revenue in 2009. His involvement in the community has also included time as a member of the Charter Advisory Committee in 2008 and the Proposition R School Bond Oversight Committee in 2006-2007. In addition to his work with the Santee community, McNelis has been involved with the San Diego Association of Mortgage Brokers (President, 2002) and the East County Association of Realtors (President, 2003). In 2004 he was named East County Realtor of the Year and in 2007 his business, One Stop Lending and Realty, was named 77th State Assembly District's Small Business of the Year. That same year Rob McNelis was named Santee Citizen of the Year in recognition of his hard work and dedication. In discussing his reasons for running for Santee City Council, Rob McNelis said that he wants to help "take the ball further down the grid," helping Santee to continue with smart growth while working within its budget, and remaining fiscally conservative. This is not a spur-of-the-moment decision + in fact he has attended nearly every council meeting over the past six years, listening, meeting one-on-one with council members, and learning all he could about the workings of the city. Knowing that many important projects are in the works, he feels that he can "hit the ground running, without any learning curve."
