My husband Paul and I have lived in Del Mar for 28 years. We raised our two daughters here who are now in college. From the time we arrived in Del Mar I realized the importance of being involved in our community. I joined the Del Mar San Dieguito Lagoon Committee and remained an active member until the birth of my second child. When both girls were in school I decided to devote my time and energy to the many volunteer opportunities that centered on their education. I sat on the Del Mar Heights Elementary Site council and was the chair for two years. During the years the girls were in elementary and middle school I had the honor of being Vice President and President of the PTA. I remember when the girls were in elementary school the children did not have an outdoor shady place to sit. I persuaded the principal and the superintendent to allow me to raise the funds for a sun shade. To this day the Del Mar Heights elementary school children can enjoy the shade on a sunny Del Mar day. After the girls were grown I once again turned my attention to the immediate community. For the past six years I have been a member of the Lagoon Committee and the chair of the annual Lagoon Day event. I am now a member of the Design Review Board and have been the chair for the past two years. Finally, my love of gardening has lead me to become a member of the Del Mar Garden Club. I believe that we enrich our own lives when we work to enrich our community. |
