I was educated in San Diego City Schools after the 3rd grade. I attended Cabrillo and Loma Portal Elementary school, Dana Jr. High, and Point Loma High. In high school I was a 4 year letterman in track and in the CSF honor society. I entered College at San Diego State in 1947 and I earned a BA in Business, a MA in Business, as well as California Secondary teaching, Counseling and Administrative Credentials. I worked my way through college in retail and wholesale sales mainly in graphic arts businesses.

My first teaching experience was teaching photography to adults, and then I taught Marketing and Sales Courses at City College while I was working on my advanced degrees.

I enjoyed teaching, and when I completed my Secondary Credential I was selected to teach at Lincoln High School by Mary Mc Mullen the first principal. She hired me to develop a marketing program and for my background in journalism, and photography. I was able to build a marketing program there, and also put out a weekly award winning newspaper. The graduates of my programs at the school ended up having productive careers and we still are in touch.

During my career as a teacher, I wrote a number of teacher guides which were published including those for Marketing, Office Training, and Business Data Processing. I also was sponsored by Sonoma State to provide consultant services in vocational and special education to over 20 California School Districts.

After 36 years of teaching, I decided to continue serving my community by running for the board of education. I was elected from the classroom in 1990, and have been serving ever since. I am active in the California School Board Association and have attained their Masters In Governance Certificate, and have served on many of their special committees including one term as the chairperson of their Urban School Committee. I was the last unanimously elected president of the San Diego School Board, and served twice as vice president.

I live in Bay Park in a house I designed and built, and have 10 great grand children. I look forward to continuing my service to the community doing something I care about. I seek no higher office!
