Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Shelle G. Thomas

Candidate for
Board Member; Morgan Hill Unified School District

This information is provided by the candidate

As a board trustee my work is to continue to improve our district by taking the time to build undertanding, support and participation. Our community must know what we are doing and the reason for it. Clear information about district policies, programs and our fiscal condition must be communicated. We can ask no less to build and to sustain trust and credibility within our district, and build trust and respect with all our district staff.

Over these past 8 years my committment to our community and to our students has only increased. I want a district committed to kids, to the people who work for the district and to the community our schools serve. We have to be accountable. We have to work together to increase student achievement. Communication, Accountability and Trust are all concerns we have to deal with in all that we do. Being a good listener is critical to success. Taking into account differing viewpoints from various constituents allows for good decision making. Willing to take risks, to raise the bar, make a committment and work collaboratively to create solutions

It is my job and the job of the board to ensure that our community has accurate infomation. Build community support by telling the truth, demonstrating to our community that problems are being addressed and involving the community in solutions. The role of the trustee is critical to building and maintaining support for our schools, and engaging the community in our schools. Excellent schools are build by establishing a supportive climate for excellence, generating a sense of pride and ownership throughout the community.
