Prior to having children, taught at the University of Nevada and worked for the United States Geological Survey

Volunteered weekly at Washington Open elementary school in SCUSD, primarily helping to teach science. Also helped with reading, math, and ceramics. Drove on 20 field trips per year per child.

Served on the Santa Clara Parents Nursery School board - 2 years as secretary and maintenance coordinator. Chaired the playground renovation committee and was a member of the teacher hiring committee.

Served on the Las Madres Playgroup Association board - 2 years as Program Director. Scheduled speakers for monthly adult education meetings.

Served as a science fair coordinator at Washington Open, a Science Fair judge for schools in Santa Clara, and serve each year as a judging team leader for the Santa Clara County Science Fair
