Our beautiful, historic Village, 3 1/2 blocks long, is special and it needs special treatment.Our historic Village is unique in many ways. It cannot grow because of a year round stream on one side and a lovely historic school on the other. It will essentially always remain the size it is today. Surprisingly this small Village has 26 food establishments, 9 hair and nail salons, 17 retail establishments and multiple other services. 40,000 visitors go through the Village each year to visit Hakone Gardens and many, many more visit the Mountain Winery. Montalvo Art Center is only a short distance away. Saratoga Village is a favorite stopping off point for many travelers from around the world.
As a Council member I have actively sought to keep the Village vital and beautiful. Special offers have been made to those merchants who come into the Village and fulfill needs that we perceive as necessary. The Council has matched funds up to $5000 to redo storefronts to make them more attractive. We have lessened parking requirements to encourage more development in the Village.Saratogans should be proud of their historic Village and, in my opinion, retain its natural beauty by keeping it two stories as it has always been in the past. |
