Director; Santa Clara Valley Water District; Division 1

The Water District is challenged by projected budget deficits and a lack of public trust. This is because it has strayed from its core mission and has not followed appropriate procedures for levying taxes and fees. Currently, the District is viewed as not being open and responsive to the public and as a result, there is a pervasive public sentiment that the District wastes taxpayer money.

This must stop.

The District's stated mission is "a healthy, safe and enhanced quality of living in Santa Clara County through watershed stewardship and comprehensive management of water resources in a practical, cost-effective and environmentally sensitive manner for current and future generations."

Once elected to the SCVWD, I will get us back on track and bring much-needed fiscal oversight to the board. I will require performance audits and public evaluations of the District's spending. I will bring my 29 years of budget balancing experience to the District and will demand that the District conduct its business in an open and fair manner which will help to restore public trust.

Business as usual cannot be allowed to continue.
