Candidate StatementBy Stacey BrownCandidate for Board Member; Cambrian School District | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
My family has lived in Cambrian for the past 15 years. With a 7th grader at Ida Price and a 4th grader at Fammatre, we have enjoyed the strong track record of achievement that has made Cambrian a high performance school district. Unfortunately, these past several years have been quite challenging. Reductions in state funding have eroded the district's cash reserves and for the first time in many, many years, Cambrian was forced to reduce staff resulting in increased class sizes for K-3 and combo classes throughout the district. As an active parent, I engaged wherever possible to support the administration and school board to navigate through the difficult decisions they had to make. What I discovered is that I am not alone, there is an abundance of parents and community members who believe strongly that great schools are the foundation of a great community. I believe that with a success-oriented plan to stabilize Cambrian's budget and flawless execution of that plan, we can thrive in these challenging times. We can bring more people into the conversation, and together we will find the solutions we seek. With a track record of success growing businesses, creating jobs, and deploying technology to solve complex problems, experience as a Home & School Club president and treasurer, member of the district-level budget information committee, plus a unique perspective on public school education in California with two children in the system and a husband getting established as a teacher, I have the credentials, commitment and passion to make the difference Cambrian needs to thrive in these challenging times. As I reflect on my own public school education, I never imagined that the quality education I received would not be available to my children. That is what is at stake. Funding for public education is in crisis, and quite frankly I'm worried. I don't think that Cambrian can weather this storm with the status quo. We cannot continue to just cut our way out of the funding problem, we must focus on building. Now is the time for new perspectives and flawless execution. |
