Ballot Statement of Frank Biehl,

Candidate for Governing Board Member, East Side Union High School District

Occupation: Governing Board Member, East Side Union High School District

Age: 59

Education and Qualifications:

My wife, two sons, and I have lived in the East Side for 20 years. As a new Board member I've been an independent voice for reform, listening to parents, teachers, students and administrators, finding the best ways to provide services during these trying financial times.

My priorities are safe schools where students graduate prepared for college and careers. I support science, technology, engineering, math and rigorous core academic classes. This coupled with sports, music and fine arts creates a well-rounded student. This focus has improved test scores at all high schools.

I believe in fiscal responsibility. Every education dollar must be invested wisely. I championed the district's solar energy project to save money. I've used my business experience to establish an Audit Committee to make sure that tax dollars are not wasted.

Experience: President, Santa Clara County School Boards Association; President, MetroED; Chair, Ed Coalition; Member, League of Woman Voters Education Committee; General Manager; business owner; Sheriff's Management Analyst; Rotarian; Little League President; BA, San Jose State University.

Endorsements: ESUHSD Trustees; Lan Nguyen, Eddie Garcia; Supervisors Dave Cortese, Ken Yeager, Blanca Alvarado (Ret.); Councilmembers Kansen Chu, Nora Campos, Ash Kalra, Rose Herrera; Assemblymembers Jim Beall, Joe Coto and Paul Fong.
