Richard Shaw for School Board

By Richard Adrian Shaw

Candidate for Board Member; Folsom Cordova Unified School District

This is the ballot statement that will be distributed to homes
Because I have lived and worked in Folsom and Rancho Cordova for 35 years, I am uniquely positioned to represent both communities on the School Board. I have been a classroom teacher, a department chairman, a coach, a vice principal, a principal and a school board member.

Our school Board has worked to make our district the best-managed and fiscally solvent school district in the state. We have cut over twenty million dollars during my tenure, while we have built four new schools, modernized most others, and build two sports stadiums and a performing arts center.

We started elementary school Spanish emersion programs in Rancho Cordova and Folsom. We partnered with Community colleges, CSUS, and UC Davis to create technology programs in Folsom and Rancho Cordova. We created a partnership with Cosumnes Community College that allows students to be enrolled in college classes while completing high school requirements. We opened academies in our high schools, with concentrations in Business, Culinary Arts, Engineering and Technology, Fashion design, Polytechnic, Public Safety, Digital and Graphic Design, and Child Development.

During these difficult and challenging times, it is important that we retain experienced leaders who have demonstrated a commitment to excellence in student learning.
