"Why are the District's water rates so high?"By Ken R. DecioCandidate for Director; Sacramento Suburban Water District; Division 3 | |

Our District is spending millions of dollars digging up old, leaky pipelines under streets and backyards and replacing them with modern, longer-lasting materials. Our District is also drilling new wells, installing water meters (required by state law), and implementing a program to protect our groundwater supply and the lower American River."Why are the District's water rates so high?" is a frequently asked question by our customers. Our District is spending millions of dollars digging up old, leaky pipelines under streets and backyards and replacing them with modern, longer-lasting materials. Our District is also drilling new wells, installing water meters (required by state law), and implementing a program to protect our groundwater supply and the lower American River. Although these improvements are costly and may not be noticeable to many of our customers, they are necessary to provide safe, reliable water while protecting the environment. I believe our District must spend ratepayers' money wisely, especially during these tough economic times. I have supported polices to control District costs, such as reducing pension benefits for new employees and capping the amount our District contributes to employee health care. I will continue to look for ways to help our District operate more efficiently and support programs that will conserve water for future generations. Please feel free to contact me at kdecio@sswd.org.. It has been an honor to serve as a Board Member for the District, and I ask for your support on election day. Thank you. |
