Safe, modernized schools implemented with current technology

Physical and emotional security is the goal. With the next five modernization projects the board must be diligent in forward thinking.

An important part of security is the knowledge that the district has a disaster plan established through a committee of district and city staff, community and parent representation. Another area of security is the confidence of being able to resolve conflict; teachers today are responsible to teach more than reading, writing and arithmetic. Critical thinking skills, positive character traits, nutrition, exercise and the application of these and other real life skills are incorporated into classroom lessons. Anti-bullying programs and drug awareness play roles in creating safe schools.

Technology is an integral part of safety. New telephone systems recently installed in all schools increase the flow of communication. Saving money and reducing the use of paper with the implementation of websites puts information at our fingertips. Staff development so the resources available can be utilized to the fullest is at the top of my list of priorities, not only for safety but also instruction.

In some classrooms Smart Boards are being used as a replacement for music teachers. Some schools have dedicated News Networks teaching with technology in a different way. Individual teachers are preparing innovative lessons in every subject. One goal is to see this talent pooled for the good of Cypress School District and it's students. It is no longer acceptable to do things the way we have always done them. I hope to be a part of this visionary process.
