The Honorable Steven C. Vargas is a former Councilmember of the City of Brea, 1998 to 2002. He served as the Senior Community Officer for the Puerto Rico Federal Affairs Administration, Washington D.C., responsible for 13 western states. He is president of Vargas Public Affair and owner of SCV Construction Corps, a general contracting company specializing in commercial tenant improvement, residential remodel and affordable housing rehabilitation work. Professional work experience includes 15 years in the nuclear industry as a nuclear operator and quality control technician working throughout the United States and international duty in the former Yugoslavia. His corporate experience includes seven years with Southern California Edison as the Employee Programs Supervisor and non-profit liaison, responsible for charitable contribution programs and grant administration; and for the past nine years with at the El Segundo Refinery, currently a Contractor Safety Specialist. His past community service experience includes membership on the Latino Advisory Board for Mission Hospital, Mission Viejo; Orange County Housing & Community Development Advisory Board, Orange County Library Board and Brea VFW and American Legion Commanders He is a founding Incorporator of United Veteran Organizations of Orange County and Roundtable for Food Professionals, California 501(c)3 non profit organizations. Steven's educational background includes: Bachelor of Science degree work in Nuclear Technology, Excelsior College, N.Y, Associate of Science, Electro-Mechanical Drafting & Design, Palomar College and A.S., Maintenance Technology, Gavilan College. He completed six years active military service as a nuclear operator and navy diver on the fast-attack submarine, USS Shark, SSN-591. He has served seven years in the Navy Reserves, recently returning from a one year deployment to Al Anbar Province, Iraq with Naval Mobile Construction Battalion Seventeen. He is currently a Chief Petty Officer with Navy Facilities Expeditionary Logistics Command at Port Hueneme, CA. |
