I have served on the library board for over 16 years and currently serve as its president. As a former business owner in Placentia I understand the importance of adapting to changing economic conditions. I was on the board in the 1990's when the state took half of our tax revenue and forced us to drastically cut hours. We have since restored most of the hours. In 2008, the board recognizing the impending recession, reorganized the library staff, resulting in a more efficient organization and a balanced budget, without layoffs or programs cuts.
My experience in corporate computer systems has proven beneficial in addressing changes in information technology to meet the needs of our community. Our board approved the new computer lab to provide additional stations for resumes, homework, research and new computer training classes for our residents and students during these difficult times. My goal is to continue to provide a great collection of books and electronic media and outstanding programs. There is still more to do. I want to be your advocate for a great library by continuing to serve on the Placentia Library Board.
