Skills and Accomplishments as a Board of TrusteeBy Nadia SanchezCandidate for Board Member; Fullerton Joint Union High School District | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Last year I was a high school student. I am now in college. My parents are immigrants which makes me a first generation U.S.A citizen. For one, I am a member of the majority of Latinos in California and FJUHSD student body, and second, as a student, I relate strongly to needs of current high school students. These two qualities alone make me unique in diversity and fresh-vision to the board. As a Board of Trustee... I hope to bring a re-new focus to the most challenging problems the district faces + (e.g., the achievement gap, drop-out rates, English learners...). I hope to bring a "total-truth" to the table + a total transparency in our objectives with full accountability for bringing results. I hope to inspire other young students to become involved in the community and the education system. I promise to provide students the resources needed to include teacher-quality and curriculum at a level of rigor necessary for each student to reach their potential. I want to bring the "choice" back into Fullerton high school students --- regardless of school. We live in a democratic society... choice in rigor and opportunity must be present in our children's path towards graduation. When I was denied acceptance into Troy High School due to district policy and forced into an alternative program, I understood the importance of choice and how critical it is to student's self-esteem and success. I am unwilling to sacrifice "transparency" and "authenticity" during my time in the board. |
