Volunteerism & Leading by setting the right examples.By Jose Luis "Joe" MorenoCandidate for Board Member; Anaheim Union High School District | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Recently, the OC Register, in the wake of the City of Bell "pay scandal" highlighted the Anaheim Union High School District (AUHSD) Board as they wrote, "Board members at districts that paid out the most or had the largest increases during the last five years, including Anaheim Union...." (OC Register June 15th 2010) I strongly believe that the total compensation as an AUHSD Board member should be reduced, especially in these times of shrinking budgets, if not temporary eliminated entirely. I believe that being a school board member is an extension of voluntarism. As a school board member, my first act will be to significantly cut, if not temporary eliminate school board compensation. With historic educational funding shortfalls from Sacramento, we have asked school district employees and students to make significant sacrifices, yet as uncovered by the OC Register, the current AUHSD Board has failed to set the right example and cut their own pay. I believe that setting the right example, includes first examining, questioning and acting on one's own self (when nobody's looking) before examining, questioning and acting on behalf of others. This is what I pledge to do as an AUHSD board member. The current board at AUHSD needs to lead by example and share in the sacrifices that staff and students have and will have to endure. I call on the current Anaheim Union High School District board to reduce or temporally eliminate their total compensation before Election Day. |
