Public Safety

By John Leos

Candidate for Council Member; City of Anaheim

This information is provided by the candidate
Anaheim Police Officers PAC and Anaheim Firefighters Association believe in John Leos, a Peace Officer and former U.S. Marine. Plan for protecting public safety.
Anaheim Firefighters Association and Police Officers Association PAC have endorsed me because they believe in my experience as a Peace Officer and service as a U.S. Marine, as well as my vision for public safety.

We must be vigilant about maintaining essential city services and infrastructure in order to protect public safety. But front-line city workers have taken the brunt of layoffs in the recent economic crisis; city employment is at a 20-year low with an increase of 87,000 residents during those 20 years.

By auditing the management ranks we can discover which positions to consolidate with vacant positions and save monies allocated to vacant ones. Nine such positions have already been eliminated, but we must preserve those front-line positions where workers provide essential services, especially first responders.

Eliminating those vacant and redundant positions will then allow us to transfer those monies to the general fund where they can then be allocated to maintaining essential city services and infrastructure.

Also affecting public safety are graffiti, crime and blighted conditions that spur on more and more deterioration when not addressed promptly and effectively. We need to change Anaheim's reputation in this regard, and combating blight and code violations in neighborhoods will help improve our public safety.
