Why I Am Running for Huntington Beach City Council

By Jim Katapodis

Candidate for Council Member; City of Huntington Beach

Why Jim Katapodis is running for Huntington Beach City Council and what he will do when he is elected.
I love living in Huntington Beach and have been a proud resident of Surf City since 1990. I have a deep connection with this city and want to see it grow. Other cities are struggling to meet their budget needs and are on the brink of bankruptcy. Elected officials in those cities have no choice but to cut jobs and programs and raise local taxes. This passes the financial burden, directly or indirectly, to its citizens. I will work to make sure this never happens to Huntington Beach.

Public Safety is my number one goal as I want to keep Huntington Beach a safe place to live, work, and play. I am a strong supporter of the Police Officers, Fire Fighters, and Lifeguards who make our city and beaches safe. I will work very hard to make Huntington Beach synonymous with having the best in public safety.

The people of Huntington Beach value the quality of life they enjoy. Although progress is a must to sustain our community, controlled growth should happen with an eye on intelligent and smart use of the land. I will support measures to maintain and conserve our natural environment and keep human impacts to these environs at a minimum.

I strongly believe that transparency in government and easy access to public records will help eliminate surprises and encourage fiscal responsibility in the government. I will be your strong advocate for this.

Even though I don't surf, I enjoy watching the U.S. Open competition knowing that with the prestige come the revenue benefits to our local businesses and in support of city services. The same also applies to the volleyball competitions that our city hosts and the fabulous 4th of July parade. I will champion events such as these as one of the mainstays of our beautiful city and to enhance its reputation as a premier tourist destination.

Having been a public servant for the past 30 years (and counting), it has become second nature to me to volunteer my time to causes I believe in. I am therefore taking this opportunity to offer my experience, knowledge and passion, and serve the Huntington Beach community.

Let me be your voice in our City Council. Come November elections, with your vote, together we can make Huntington Beach the city you and I will always want to live in.
