Jim Katapodis was born and raised in Northern California. His parents live in Broadmoor Village, a small community near Daly City. He he has two older sisters, one living in Idaho and the other near Sacramento. When Jim joined the Police Explorers in Daly City at age 16, he realized a calling to become a police officer. He joined the Los Angeles Police Department in 1978 and is now a Sergeant with instructors at the Police Academy under his supervision. Jim's distinguished career with the LAPD has been marked by various awards and recognitions. His most notable honor is for risking his life with another officer to save a police helicopter pilot from a crashed helicopter that was about to catch fire. Jim is prominent in the law enforcement community where as an Executive Board member of the Los Angeles Police Revolver and Athletic Club. He is often called to serve as an expert witness for law enforcement-related civil trials. Jim served as the Sergeant-at-arms for the Los Angeles City Council and was present during their regular and committee meetings. Jim moved to Huntington Beach in 1990 and graduated from Golden West College. While living in Huntington Beach, he has been an Assistant Track and Field Coach at Ocean View High School for their Boys and Girls Track teams. He is a member of the Huntington Beach Chamber of Commerce and is on the Board of the Westminster Community Theater. Jim is a proud father of two daughters, one teaches kindergarten in Northern California and the other attends community college. He recently married Vivian, who moved to Huntington Beach from Los Angeles. Jim's hobbies are fishing, acting and directing plays in community theaters, and of course, watching sports. He plans to retire soon from the LAPD. Jim Katapodis has found personal fulfillment in being a public servant, and with your help, wants to continue giving back to our community by running for and getting elected to a seat on the Huntington Beach City Council. |
