Cathy believes a diverse water porfolio includes conservation, water recycling, new water sources and improved storage guaranteeing an affordable supply of water now and in times of crisis.Orange County Water District was formed in 1933 and supplies water to over 2.4 million people in 21 cities Of all water on Earth, only about 1% is safe for human consumption A person can survive for only 3 to 5 days without water Of all the water on Earth, humans can use only about three tenths of 1% Your Huntington Beach water costs about 2.3 tenths of a cent per gallon Much more water is stored underground and aquifers than on the Earth's surface. Huntington Beach is above a huge aquifer The Earth is a closed system like a terrarium. The same water that existed on the earth millions of years ago is still present today. Water dissolves more substances than any other liquid The average person in the United States uses between 80 to 100 gallons of water each day. Flushing the toilet takes up the largest amount. There are two kinds of water: saltwater and freshwater. Freshwater has less than 1% salt in the solution Most of the earth's surface water is permanently frozen or salty Water is the only substance found on the earth that can exist as a solid, a liquid or gas. This is what makes life possible. When water contains a lot of calcium and magnesium, it is called hard water. To determine water quality, Orange County Water District takes samples that are tested in their laboratory "When the well is dry, we know the worth of water." Ben Franklin |
