EXCELLENCE IN EDUCATION My goal as a board member is to improve the educational opportunities for all students in the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD). I want our schools to be safe environments replete with qualified teachers and administrators, up-to-date instructional materials, modern facilities, and educational programs that provide each and every student equal opportunities to acquire a strong academic foundation. Course offerings must be rigorous and relevant regardless of whether a student plans to pursue higher education or plans to enter the workplace immediately following graduation. RESPONSIBLE FISCAL LEADERSHIP Despite constant reductions in state funding, we need to do our best to protect our ability to deliver a quality education to students while maintaining fiscal solvency. Therefore, well-informed decisions are more critical than ever. The need to find alternate funding sources becomes imperative. As an educational leader in this district, I have a strong record of making informed decisions which have resulted in fiscal stability. During my time in office, the district was able to successfully come through not only the challenges imposed by the historic Orange County bankruptcy but also a near decade-long series of cuts by the State. Through responsible budgeting and alternate funding sources, we have remained solvent. Moreover, we have been able to find funding which has enabled the district to modernize older schools and build four new campuses. The citizens of the district played a key role in supporting school bond measures designed to assist in facility improvements and new construction. COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT Placentia Yorba Linda Unified School District encompasses all of Placentia and Yorba Linda as well as portions of Anaheim, Brea and Fullerton. In this diverse district, it is important to stay connected to the needs of each of these areas. As a board member, it is vital for us to be the bridge between these communities and the school district. Additionally, we must act as a representative of PLYUSD at the local level as well as at the county and the state level. I have been and will continue to be active at all levels of our community by being involved in local organizations, county educational associations and committees, and as a delegate member of the California School Boards Association. I take this responsibility seriously. LEADERSHIP STYLE I am willing to listen and remain open to new ideas. I'm approachable and believe in open communications with all stakeholders. I follow through on my responsibilities. I come prepared for all meetings and do my "homework". I seek positive solutions through consensus building. Representing all of our students no matter who they are or where they live or attend school is my fundamental responsibility. I am enthusiastic about my role as a board member because I am committed to furthering public education. |
