As a law enforcement officer, Ric dedicated 15 years of his life to serving the public. He served various communities in southern California, working to make the areas he served as safe as possible. During his career, Ric was instrumental in apprehending hundreds of fugitive felons and worked various investigations that protected California taxpayers from losing millions of dollars in fraudulent spending. During an assignment in 1999, Ric wrote a legislative proposal that became the framework for part of California's current identity theft law. Due to his high level of dedication and service, Ric received the State of California Sustained Superior Accomplishment award for his meritorious service. After many injuries that he sustained on duty, Ric retired early from the career he loved so much. Ric has spent over 12 years teaching community college students about the aspects of our legal system. Many of the students in his classes aspire to be future police officers. Ric's law enforcement background allows him to teach courses primarily related to constitutional law, evidence, investigations, organized crime and narcotics. Over the years, Ric has taught hundreds of students at both community colleges and police academies. During his time as a Brea Planning Commissioner, Ric has continually worked to protect Brea residents from a variety of issues. For example:
