Budget and Limiting Staff LayoffsBy Vicki R. CalhounCandidate for Board Member; Fullerton Joint Union High School District | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Budget crisis is hurting schools across the nation. It is the responsibility for the Board of Trustees to examine all possibilities to minimize staff layoffs and cuts. The loss of days due to furloughs is not the best way to balance the budget either. But given these hard times, this has happened to many districts. I believe if any schoolmdays should be cut for budget purposes, it should come after the testing period. Losing any more days of instruction before testing will hurt the students performance on testing and the school's API. Furlough days should be examined year by year and when the budget improves, furlough days should be eliminated. |
