Mayor Delgado's downtown plan is simple -
1) embrace Cal State Monterey Bay and its $150M annual economy and vast intellectual and social/volunteer capital and engage Marina to become a University Town
2) Ambitiously apply for federal, state, and other funding to construct $145 million light rail network between Marina and Monterey to attract millions of dollars to modernize our Del Monte Blvd.
- Accelerate Downtown Economic Development with University Town vision:
As much as 75% of locally-owned businesses and many
residents are within the Downtown District. Central Marina possesses everything needed to attract high-value, low-impact development. Downtown redevelopment will 1) stimulate business for local shop owners while simultaneously encouraging new businesses to come to town. Statistics show a prosperous downtown will also provide quality jobs within walking distance, affordable housing, entertainment, cultural activities, civic engagement and a visible demonstration of community pride. Mayor Delgado's vision for Marina is a robust, fun, and economically prosperous University Town!
- A modern transportation infrastructure is crucial and all 30 light rail networks in America have attracted millions of dollars of private investments within 1/4 mile of light rail stations to produce transit-oriented development (cafes, book stores, condos, restaurants, etc.). Marina just needs to support TAMC's efforts to secure $145 million of primarily state and federal funding to operate light rail between Marina and Monterey by 2015.
- Build An Economically Environmentally Sustainable Community: Reducing traffic, conserving water, and balancing budgets all play a role in future development. Bruce understands the connection between economic and environmental trade-offs and will strive to ensure the impact these developments have on our citizen's quality of life is a positive one.
