Smart Voter Full Biography for Jill Sprenkel

Candidate for
Board Member; Byron Union School District

This information is provided by the candidate

My name is Jill Sprenkel and I am running for a seat on the BUSD School Board. I have served in this capacity the past four years and take great pride and joy from this experience. I have learned much about our schools, public education, state and federal education laws and finance, but mostly, how truly blessed we are to be able to send our children off each day to learn. We have many wonderful teachers in our district who care deeply for children and their success, we have principals and support staff who work each day to support these teachers, and we have a community filled with many parents who volunteer time, talent and materials to make school work for all of our children.

My husband and I have lived in Discovery Bay 14 years, and are the proud parents of a 6th grade daughter attending Excelsior, and his 3 grown children who also attended Byron schools, plus son and daughter (in-laws) and two beautiful granddaughters ... the youngest born just two days ago! We have always been actively involved in our community and truly love making our home and life here.

Our schools and our community reflect the financial turmoil and instability of our world today, yet I take deep comfort from realizing at BUSD we have built a strong team and together are striving to lend the support to teachers, students and families needed. It is as a team I believe, in our homes, our schools and our community we will see through these tough times and come out together stronger for it all.

BUSD is working to create alternative funding sources to support our programs, actively involved in identifying and then providing professional coaching and support for best practices to be taught in every classroom to reach each student, and building on its culture of care for everyone. Our students come each day to learn, to be inspired, challenged, motivated and encouraged. Our goal is they will find support and compassion from adults who truly believe in them ... and this will help them to believe in themselves.

I have been honored to be involved in this work of our district these past four years, and ask for your support to continue. I will always advocate for our children to have a solid foundation and education.

I will work for my child ... I will work for yours.
